Dr.
Marion Lawler was born and raised in Mercedes, Texas. He is a graduate of Southwestern University in Georgetown and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He completed surgical training including Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. Following two years of Naval Service, including a year aboard the hospital ship USS "SANCTUARY" as a thoracic surgeon in Vietnam, he returned to Harlingen and established his surgical practice in 1971. In 1977, Dr. Lawler helped to found the Valley Regional Heart Center at Valley Baptist Medical Center, and that year performed the first open heart surgical procedure in the Rio Grande Valley. Since that time, the Valley Regional Heart Center has grown and recently completed a $50 million expansion program. Dr. Lawler is a Fellow of American College of Surgeons, Fellow of American College of Cardiology, a member of Southern Thoracic Surgeons, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, International Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, Texas Surgical Society, Fellow of Southwestern Surgical Congress, Denton A. Cooley Cardiovascular Surgical Society, DeBakey International Cardiovascular Society, American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, and the Cameron-Willacy County Medical Society. |

| Dr. Ruben Montelongo Lopez |

Dr. Ruben M. Lopez recently completed a Cardiothoracic residency at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston under the direction of Dr. Denton Cooley. He is Board eligible in Thoracic Surgery. He also completed a Fellowship in Trauma Surgery and a General Surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He is Board certified by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Lopez graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, a member of the Denton A. Cooley Cardiovascular Surgical Society, Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association and the Cameron-Willacy County Medical Society.
Dr. Lopez is Trauma Director for Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. He is co-chairman of the Medical Oversight committee of the Trauma Regional Advisory Council for Region V. Also a member of the Board of Directors for the Trauma Regional Advisory Council for Region V and a member of the Board of Directors for the Trauma Regional Advisory Council for Area V.
